Turn an Excel file into an editable web table in seconds.

Upload your .xlsx file and Tablesmit builds the full table automatically from the first sheet. Headers detected, column structure preserved, data ready to edit, style, and export.

Benefits

Reads .xlsx and .xls formats

Tablesmit uses SheetJS to parse Excel files natively. Both modern .xlsx and legacy .xls formats are supported — no conversion step needed.

First sheet imported automatically

The first worksheet in the workbook is imported. Headers in the first row are detected and set as the table header. All subsequent rows become data rows.

Fully editable after import

Once imported, the table is a Tablesmit table — resize columns, merge cells, apply themes, change column types, add a caption, then export in any format.

5MB limit, processed locally

Files up to 5MB are supported. Parsing happens entirely in the browser using SheetJS. Your file is never uploaded to a server.

How it works

1

Click Import in the toolbar

Find the Import button in the toolbar. Click the dropdown arrow and choose 'Import from Excel'.

2

Select your Excel file

Choose an .xlsx or .xls file from your computer. Tablesmit parses the first worksheet and builds the table.

3

Edit and export

Your Excel data is now in Tablesmit. Style it, resize columns, apply a theme — then export to PDF, LaTeX, PNG, CSV, or back to Excel.

Use cases

  • Importing a results dataset from Excel to style it and export as a publication-ready PDF
  • Taking a raw data export from a database tool (saved as .xlsx) and converting it to a clean LaTeX table
  • Importing a pricing spreadsheet and re-exporting as a styled PNG for a proposal document
  • Bringing legacy Excel data into Tablesmit to merge cells and apply proper column types
